Special mentions to Guillotine (New Delhi) and Dark Horizon (Assam)

Gowri, a solo artist from Pune, India has won the inaugural Resonate music award. The unanimous choice of the judges (Nolan Lewis, Sahil Makhija, Chris Avinash and Deepak Rao), Gowri wins recording time for a full-length album at Christortion, the music studio owned by Chris Avinash.

Along with the studio time, Gowri will also receive support and guidance to market the finished album and ensure it reaches her target audience. This also includes a 30% discount from Furtados for future musical equipment purchases.

Two other artists, Guillotine from New Delhi and Dark Horizon from Assam receive special mention and the support of The Resonate Music Award. Details of this support are being worked out but will involve a combination of cash prizes, discounts for musical equipment and possible recording support to help them in their music endeavours.

Deepak, the founder of The Resonate Music Award said “We couldn’t have asked for a better start to The Resonate Music Award – we received phenomenal interest, with 40 bands all over the country submitting entries. It was a very tough call to make, but Gowri’s demo stood out through its quality, and showcased her determination in crossing the high barriers for a solo artist. I look forward eagerly to the finished album – and for next year’s awards. Guillotine and Dark Horizon receive special mention and we are working out the details of a partnership – they further highlight the quality of entries received.”

Gowri, the winner of the award says “The Resonate Award for me is a combination of perfect time, perfect place and perfect people! I pretty much finished writing another song and was wondering what to do with all these tracks, and then the Award happened. Kudos to the team at Resonate for getting ahead with this initiative, and for believing in the potential of my music. I hope all this results in the production of some great music and a great album.”

To all artists who submitted entries, we thank you for your faith in trusting us with your music and experiences. We aim to give all artists our honest feedback and do get in touch with us at contact@resonate.in if you have any particular queries. Don’t forget that you are entitled to a 10% discount at Furtados – email us for details on how to redeem this. We hope that you will try again next year.

To everyone who supported the award and helped spread the award – thank you very much. We aim to keep you updated as we progress through the recording phase and approach next year’s awards. We would love feedback on what we could have done better and what you would like to see next year. Email us at contact@resonate.in or post on our forum at www.resonate.in

Special thanks to Rolling Stone, Furtados, Netbramha Studios and RadioVeRVe for their support in making this idea into a reality.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

20 August 2009

The Resonate Music Award extends deadline to 1st September 2009 and announces partnerships with Rolling Stone magazine, Furtados Music and RadioVeRVe

The Resonate Music Award, a unique opportunity to win a fully funded album recording at Christortion Studios, Bangalore has extended the deadline for entries to 1st September 2009.

Deepak, the founder of the award says, “I’d like to clarify some points that have raised questions so far:

a) The album is open to bands from all over India - as long as the winning band is willing to arrange for travel and accommodation to record with the world-class facilities of Christortion Studios, Bangalore. To date, entries have been received from Mumbai, Shillong, Chennai, Bangalore, Pune and Cochin to name a few.

b) You can submit entries even if you have 1 song – while 3 songs help us to fully appreciate your music and make a more informed decision, we understand that some bands are not in the position to submit all three.”

The Resonate Music Award is also tremendously pleased to announce a media partnership with Rolling Stone India. Rolling Stone will cover the award and carry a feature on the winning band.

In a welcome gesture for artists looking to expand their music gear, Furtados Music, India’s foremost music store, will offer a discount of 10% to all artists that submit entries. This can be used at any Furtados store across India and on all purchases. Furtados will extend this discount to 30% for the winning entry along with a special prize – details of which to follow.

The organizers further welcome the support of RadioVeRVe, India’s premier independent music radio station, who pledge to promote the winner of The Resonate Music Award 2009.

Join the newly created online community at http://www.resonate.in/forum and interact with the organisers. The organizers invite questions and feedback.

Announcing the Resonate Music Award 2009

A unique music scholarship with a chance to record at one of Bangalore’s best equipped studios under the wings of 4 music stalwarts.

The Resonate Music Award is part of Deepak Rao’s long-term commitment to the music scene in India. The inaugural award will aim at musicians in Bangalore in its first year of inception and aims to be a significant contribution towards an artist or band’s dream of releasing an album of international quality by opening the doors to recognition in the national and international music scene. With the help of many established music gurus covering many genres across India, the award will contribute not only towards the relieving some of the financial stress, but also towards guiding the artists to a successful music career.

The award pledges to cover recording, mixing and mastering costs for a full length album. The panel of judges consists of India’s leading musicians, Nolan Lewis of Kryptos fame, Sahil Makhija, also known as the ‘Demonstealer’ and Chris Avinash. Chris Avinash will record the band at his spanking new studio, Christortion in Bangalore and provide guidance to the recipients on how to market this brand new album to achieve maximum impact.

Entries will be judged based on the quality of original compositions and the band’s vision on marketing the finished album.

Nolan Lewis, founding member of Kryptos, one of India’s most explosive Heavy Metal bands, is very complimentary of the award. ”This award is a great initiative to inspire and promote local talent to get the recognition they deserve as well as expose them and their music to a larger and hopefully more appreciative audience”.

Sahil, a.k.a the Demonstealer, one of the most well known people in the Indian music scene today goes on to say “The award is something every band is going to look forward too, in this day and age you need more than just good music and giving bands the chance to be produced and recorded will definitely take the burden of saving money off their heads and allow them to focus more on music and their personal musical development.”

Chris is an industry stalwart with over 12 years of experience in the music business. “I’m happy to be part of TRMA. This is something I wish we had when we started out! It’s a wonderful experience to be able to give back, in some way, to the community of musicians that I am so proud to be a part of. The team at TRMA is thoroughly professional and have an incredible amount of goodwill that they bring to the table, in addition to actually putting their money and skills where it matters”.

Deepak is the founder of The Resonate Music Award, and is extremely excited at turning a long term desire into a reality. “I know from first hand experience the difficulties associated with putting out a quality release. I sincerely hope that this award will help to identify local talent and give them a leg-up in the music industry. Having found partners that share the same vision, I look forward to promoting Indian music talent. This award is the result of us wanting to give something back to the community we enjoy being a part of”
Entries for the 2009 Resonate Award are now open and closes on the 20th of Aug with the winner being announced on the 1st of September. For more information about how to apply and who can partake, please visit www.resonate.in
